BA (Hons) Textile Design
Studying textile design at NUA has enabled me to focus, broaden and refine my strengths and weaknesses. Working collaboratively within a team as well as independently on industry briefs has developed my confidence and skill set. I have a passion for many types of art including, textiles, mixed media, illustration and photography. My spare time is spent at the coast, in my family beach hut with my two labradors, using the wildlife and scenery as some of my inspiration.
Continuing this love for the natural world, I have used inspiration from my travels, exploring these subjects through printed textiles for both fashion and interiors. I have a combined love for working both by hand, and digitally in surface design. My style plays homage to iconic artists such as Matisse, combing graphic, bold drawings and paintings with expressive textures within designs. My aim within the final major project was to experiment with tropical, vibrant colours to create an uplifting mood. Using habitats as the focus of my inspiration, the summer collection ‘Hidden Jewels’ delves deep into a celebration of underwater jungles such as coral reefs and mangrove forests, in an abstract and playful way.
