BA (Hons) Fine Art
My multidisciplinary practice plays with the boundaries between fine art and fashion, entangling these creative spheres. I challenge conventional wear by constructing other-worldly costumes and disguises in the studio. The human body is essential to activate these wearable works, so I collaborate with artists, dancers and models to wear my pieces.
The costumes abstract the body into artistic forms, and the wearer is transformed into a performer. Sublime landscapes are used as the context for my performances, setting a dreamlike and whimsical environment for bodily transformation. Performers are encouraged to move and respond to the costumes based on their own intuitions. As a result, there is a sense of awkwardness as well as liberation in their poses, of being comfortable with being uncomfortable.
