Joanna Duchannes is a multimedia artist, working primarily with sculpture and painting. She explores the relationships between objects, their themes and the emotions behind the personal connections that we establish with them. Her ideas are often drawn from dream-like imagery, which is apparent through her use of abstract textures and shapes throughout her work.
Her most recent project investigates the theme of ‘metamorphosis’ and her fascination with objects associated with or created by nature. Whether it is the veins on a leaf, the fluttering of wings, or the bubbliness of coral, the repeated patterns within the natural world fuel her artistic practice. What is most apparent in her new project is her attraction to underwater architecture. Inspired by the alien-like world beneath the ocean’s surface, Duchannes’ sculptures test the boundaries of metamorphoses by juxtaposing natural forms through her surrealist eye.
