Francesca Stack’s practice aims to explore identity through prints and photographs of participants possessions and spaces. Stack begins this process by asking participants to present to her items that have meaning to them or to allow her to photograph their spaces when they’re away from them. Stack uses these methods to present how we can reflect aspects of our identity through objects and the way we occupy our spaces, ultimately assessing the relationship between identity and possessions.
With this visual information presented, Stack looks at how we, as a society, may make assumptions about a person’s character through initial appearances such as their possessions or living spaces. Stack looks at the relationship between possessions and identity through asking the viewer to make assumptions but also questions how we use our possessions and spaces to present our personalities to others.
