Design

Dave Watson,
Course Leader

User Experience Design is about finding innovative ways to use technology to solve problems, creating meaningful experiences that make peoples’ lives easier. This can involve designing apps, websites, interfaces for video games and other devices, board games, way-finding projects, service design and market research pieces.

Student success

2023 saw the course reach new heights, winning awards, competitions, and praise from industry partners. Sophie Ross earned a D&AD New Blood Pencil award for her project Sky React. UX students’ teams also won 1st and 2nd place at Sync the City, a 54-hour tech start-up competition.

Guest lectures

Virgin Wines worked closely with our students to redesign elements of their website, culminating in a presentation of their work to Virgin Wines’ CEO and directors, and a wine-tasting event for the students. Their concepts will be implemented live on the Virgin Wines website in the coming months.

Interactive exhibitions

Students developed solutions for a brief set by UX agency Foolproof which asked them to build toolkits for other UX designers, to help them to build more inclusive and accessible products.

Industry set briefs

The students have had lectures, workshops and portfolio reviews from Tim Caynes, Experience Design Director at Foolproof; Amy Wolsey, Head of Design Research at the BBC; Mark Williams-Cook, Director of SEO at Candour; Bex Rae-Evans, Chief Design Officer at Snook; Katie Moore, Head of Creative at Soak Digital; Andy Larkin, UX Des
